This morning, for seemingly no reason at all, I decided to do something different. I closed my eyes and gave myself a fun little mission to make it into the kitchen without opening them. What I thought was seemingly a random challenge for myself, turned out to be more; perhaps even a cleverly and purposely timed prompting of the Holy Spirit to show me a lesson about life.
One Small Step for Man…
As I was making my way down the familiar hallway I realized how much I (we) depend on our senses when we move to get from point A to point B. I was familiar with my surroundings, yes, which made the challenge a little less scary. But with every step there was still fear that I could stub my toe, I could hit a wall or an unforeseen corner of furniture, I could injure myself by face-planting into a picture, or perhaps even cause some serious damage by losing my footing and falling forward doing this little exercise.
In fact, as I was progressing further and further into it, I even began reprimanding myself for the foolishness of putting myself at unnecessary danger or risk just for the sake of it.
What’s interesting though is right alongside the sense fear and caution, I felt that in engaging myself blindly with my surroundings there was also a sense of oneness and fascination. There was a stronger sense of connectivity from the inside out with a stronger force bigger than my temporal reality (Star Wars fans understand lol).
I felt a sense of full dependence on my other suddenly heightened senses and more importantly, I began leaning on the subconscious foundation I’d already established in knowing the outline and pathways of my surroundings. Having this foundation was a safeguard. So even if I did feel an obstruction, or had a minor trip, or even turned in the wrong direction, I knew I was okay. I felt around where I was to reestablish my current setting and managed to always course-correct and keep moving forward.
The foundational knowledge gave me courage to keep moving and served as a security blanket.
…One Giant Leap Toward Faith.
Once I reached the kitchen at the end of this very brief experiment, it felt amazing looking back at how much I had to go through and how going into this challenge that requires so much trust and faith put me to the test in what otherwise would seem to be a straightforward mission. I came out with so much perspective spiritually.
You see, this challenge reminded me a lot about the kind of faith God asks us to have in him as we walk through this life.
We see ourselves as these all-knowing beings with intelligence and fully capacitated senses that should easily take us from point A to point B in our lives to accomplish all that we seek to accomplish. When in reality, we’re newborn babes to this life. We have no idea what we’re doing. We go through it blind, deaf and dumb thinking we’re masters of our own fate, but often we’re charging forward into a dark maze senseless, not understanding why we drift away from our charted course so easily along the way.
Many people are lost, stumble, hit obstacles, experiencing fear and anxiety every moment about what could come because they don’t have a foundation to guide them. They don’t have THE foundation, which is the Word of God and the living example of the Word in human flesh – Christ Jesus.
Isaiah 42:16 New International Version (NIV)
“I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.”
It’s like the parable told by Jesus about the man who built his house on the rock. When we have a solid, unyielding foundation that our life is built upon, fluid external circumstances won’t matter or affect it. We could be in a new situation that we don’t know and aren’t familiar with where we’re going in blind, and we can still remain at peace, knowing that we are resting upon a solid foundation guiding us in the right direction and keeping us from falling or getting lost.
Matthew 7:24-27 English Standard Version (ESV)
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
Wisdom given by God is the outline of our life, and as long as we walk in it, our lives will never come to ruin. It’s scary and it requires great trust and great faith to do it. But lean upon the Word of God as the strongest of your God-given senses, for He is proven to be faithful. Allow your trust in this foundation to lead you to your next destination, and God will reveal it to you if you just keep moving.

Remember friends, the only cure to invite light and hope into your life, and the only ticket to return to the throne of God in Heaven is calling on the name of Jesus Christ as your savior.
Time is very short my friend. We are in the end days. The Lord has given us the sign of the times 2,000 years ago in the book of Revelation to know the season in which he is returning soon for his own, and that time is imminent. Accept the gift of Jesus Christ today. Invite him into your heart and be renewed in Him. He is waiting with joy to receive you unto himself.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
