People tend to think of God as a being of visitation. An entity that comes to us and then leaves us again. Is here one moment, engaging, present and doing miraculous things, but then another is silent, out of reach and beyond our touch when it seems we need him most.

In times when God seems silent or we can’t feel his love, we feel abandoned. Feeling left alone, there comes a growing disconnect between us and the world around us that darkens our perspective of life and His power (or lack thereof) in it and over it; almost as if all that was once solid and sure quickly dulls and falls away bitterly as ash in our mouths. We cry “why have you left me?”, “don’t you see or care about me?”, we turn to distractions and temporary remedies we can see, touch and depend on to feel better, and if felt abandoned long enough we may even declare, “hmph, there is no God.”

But there is a truth declared of the Lord, that remind us and can teach us how to see the invisible God everywhere and at anytime. The truth reveals His enduring presence with us. The truth, is in His name — I AM.

Try something with me, and I’ll explain what I mean. Close your eyes and quiet your thoughts as best as you can. Now, in your mind, imagine a beautiful setting that brings peace and relaxation to your spirit. Can you picture it? Sit with that image for a moment as your mood lifts. Now, begin to think of a list of things and encounters that bring joy and inspiration into your heart. Things that make life beautiful and worthwhile.

  • The beauty of an auburn-kissed sunset;
  • The peaceful stillness sitting amongst a bed of velvet petaled lilies;
  • The tenderness in the eyes of a devoted husband or wife;
  • The warmth of a blanket on a cold night;
  • The selflessness of a man giving his shoes to someone else who has none;
  • The tears that fall when you hear the beauty of a harp, piano or violin;
  • The generosity of someone in line paying for someone else’s groceries;
  • The wondrous sprout of seeds into ripened tomatoes in your garden bed;
  • The relief you feel when a vandal is placed behind bars for wrongdoing;
  • The shared moment of belly-deep laughter with close friends;
  • The reconciliation of a father and son;
  • The conviction in a person standing against the masses for what’s right;
  • The birth of a helpless newborn baby, puppy or cub;
  • A man with cerebral palsy crossing the finish line of a marathon;
  • The rhythmic heartbeat in your chest and rush of air swirling within your lungs.

In the Bible, it is declared that God is good. Not only good in His actions, but of His nature and character. He is the very embodiment of goodness itself and therefore all that He has made is good, for He knows nothing else. So any good that we experience in this life, is in essence God himself.

By recalling the name of the Lord, who is the great I AM, we can see the pattern and presence of God in all that is good in our lives.

How do we put this to practice? By witnessing to His name in our daily lives when we see and ponder good things, saying “Lord, you are…..”.

The Bible helps us to understand and recognize the many words that describe God’s good character and therefore provides a way for us to recognize His presence when we experience them.

    • …Lord, you are love

    • Lord, you are life

In the moments you feel God is silent, remember He IS there. In the good that we see in the world, and even in the depths of our sorrows and worst moments. God’s presence and the comfort of His touch are the very tears that stroke our cheeks as they fall.

He is there waiting to be seen by you, once you take the time to recognize who He is.

Remember friends, the only cure to invite light and hope into your life, and the only ticket to return to the throne of God in Heaven is calling on the name of Jesus Christ as your savior.

Time is very short my friend. We are in the end days. The Lord has given us the sign of the times 2,000 years ago in the book of Revelation to know the season in which he is returning soon for his own, and that time is imminent. Accept the gift of Jesus Christ today. Invite him into your heart and be renewed in Him. He is waiting with joy to receive you unto himself.

May the Lord bless you and keep you.
